Diaper dilemma

So I went Target today to purchase diapers for the first time. I bought a small pack of newborn diapers, I think 44 count and 1 pack of Size 1 (72 count). Babies R Us is has super jumbo boxes of diapers (216 count). My dilemma is... To all you Moms out there, should I buy 2 super jumbo boxes of size 1? Or buy a size 1 and a size 2 of the super jumbo boxes? Just want to make sure that I am not going to be buying too many size 1 diapers! Thanks for the help!

Another question... Matt thinks the Diaper Genie is a waste of money so he insists we purchase a regular garbage can. For those of you who actually purchased the diaper pail, was it worth your money? Or should we just stick with the regular garbage pail?

What a great life!

You can believe me or not, but Parker really did snuggle up to the pillow without any interventions! This is the kind of life I want to live!

36 weeks - Belly pics!

32 weeks (8 months pregnant)
34 weeks
36 weeks (9 months)

I can't believe we are in the last month of pregnancy! Did you know that a pregnancy is actually 10 months?? Yup, 40 weeks gestation is considered full-term. Well, actually 37 weeks is considered full term. But in fact, they don't induce you until you are 1 week late so that puts you over 10 months of pregnancy! So what happens at 36 weeks? All the books say we should be packing the overnight bag! Just in case! Kinda freaky that a baby is going to come in just 1 month! Oh my!

From the looks of it, my belly has definitely popped! Matt says I am "waddling." The baby is definitely active. I can't imagine how much bigger my belly is going to get in 4 weeks!

Funny story

Today was the first day I actually put on shoes that were not slip on sandals and let me tell you... it was not an easy task. To help with my "trace edema" which means I have slight swelling in my lower legs and feet, I decided to wear the tennis shoes into work. Well, since I've been wearing my sandals all summer, I never realized it would be such a hard task. First of all, Baby Besmer's legs were wedged up in my ribs so when I leaned over to put my socks and shoes on, it was quite difficult to actually lean over without feeling body parts squishing into my ribs. Then once I got my shoes on, it was even more of a task to get those dang laces tied! Who would have known it was so difficult to get all the way down there! Now I appreciate what pregnant women go through in the winter! I guess I should consider myself lucky since I only have 4 1/2 weeks left to go and I've discovered shoes are difficult to put on!

The weekly visits begin

So even though I am not technically 36 weeks yet, the weekly visits have started. But that's another story. I don't know why that bothers me. I tried to get them to allow me to skip a week and restart on a Monday vs. the Thursdays I seem to be stuck on, but they were not letting me. So, what really sucked about this visit was that my first weekly visit was not with my original family med doc. So in walks this new doctor... hum not happy with that one. Then I have this long list of questions but most of it pertains to the actual delivery so I'm not going to go into all my questions with the new doctor who is not even part of my delivery. My whole objective of this visit was to convince them to give me another ultrasound. I've been measuring small and I just want to make sure everything is okay. I'm sure it is, but it would be nice to verify. So today, I am 35 1/2 weeks pregnant but measure at 33 cm, which puts me at 2 1/2 cm behind my estimated gestational age. Last time I was 33 1/2 weeks and measured 31, so I guess I am measuring smaller at the same rate. Then to top things off, I had the pleasure of getting my "Group B Strep" test. Well, if you don't know what that means, I'll spare you but let me tell you it wasn't pleasant! Bonus of the visit - she tells me I have trace edema! So my next 3 weekly visits are already scheduled with Dr. Jenkins (my regular doc) this time... I made sure of that! The only problem is that none of them are in the morning which is when Matt can come, so he will not be with me at any of my final appointments.

Stuffed animal

I bought Baby Besmer's first stuffed animal. A couple of my friends have a "Watch Me Grow" picture montage with their baby growing next to the stuffed animal. So we can watch Baby B grow next to Winnie the Pooh. Can you believe it will all start in just 5 weeks!

JAG Baby Shower

I just received some pictures from my baby shower hosted by Matt's coworkers. Thought I'd share.

Thank you so much to the JAG office of Fort Eustis, Virginia and to my hosts - Cara, Sara, Karen, and Ashley!

Ah man...

So, I've hit the uncomfortable period! It's not terrible but definitely uncomfortable. The worse part is probably some difficulty breathing and some back pain but nothing that I would say is unbearable. I really can't imagine that some women have to go through their pregnancy like this early on in their pregnancy. So I consider myself lucky.

Not much will go on this week. We start our birthing classes on Wednesday. We don't have any real plans for Labor Day. Just making some home improvements including adding a ceiling fan to the baby's room and new blinds to the baby room and guest room. And of course, going to Babies R Us for more purchases!

35 weeks... watch me grow

33 weeks
34 weeks
35 weeks... 5 weeks to go! I didn't shrink. It's either the shirt or the baby has dropped further into my pelvis. So no comments on how small I am!

View Album ">

Well, I tried to post a slideshow but the pictures are so small. At least you can view all of the pictures at one time. I'll have to work on that one!

The baby room is coming along...

Pack n Play in place of our (backordered) crib
Ikea Dresser/changing table with cute wall stickers of Tigger
Pooh wall stickers above bed
Baby B's room is coming along. At least we have a place for the baby to sleep until the crib comes now. I sure hope the Pack n Play gets easier to assemble. It would have been a cinch but the top bassinet insert had me confused for awhile. Really, the only thing left for us to put in the baby room now is the glider. Well, that's not true. We are going to buy new blinds and install a ceiling fan. I also still have more wall stickers to put up on the wall but I can't decide if I want to put them above the crib or on the other walls. Or I could put the the baby's name up above the crib too. I wish our crib would come in so I could see the whole room come together before the baby is born. Oh well, better to compromise with time than to compromise with the safety of a crib.

The Past, Present, and Future

Past - High school prom... not sure if it's junior or senior year. Look at all that hair!

Our wedding day - September 8, 2007
Babymoon trip - NYC
Baby Besmer - estimated arrival date September 29th

Quiet Friday

Matt is gone on another law conference. This time to Napa, California. I was so mad when I found out he was going, mainly because I wanted to go! Plus he gets a quick visit with his family so of course I am jealous since I haven't seen my family since Thanksgiving of 2007! Yeah, I know! I tried to fly out in July but airline prices were ridiculous! But now it doesn't seem like it's going to get any better. Add in the price of luggage and I just get MAD! Anyways, so it's quiet around here. Parker and I are enjoying the last couple of days of the Olympics while writing Thank You cards for my baby shower. All I have planned for this weekend is to sleep in and make a trip to Babies R Us. I have 2, 20% off coupons so I am going to buy some big ticket items! We NEED to pack and play since our crib issue, so that's a definite and I think I'm going to buy the mattress just because I will eventually need it soon. I can't waste the 20% off coupon! That's like throwing money away! Plus I scored another $5 off $25 purchase, so I'll buy a couple of other items like the closet organizer and something else to make up the difference. So no one get mad at me for buying more stuff... we NEED it!

Baby crib update!

So, now they say the crib should be in the warehouse by 9/12. Apparently there was flood that has backed up the orders. I was thinking the warehouse was in China so they had to shut down production to decrease emissions. Huh... not sure. So, I've decided to wait it out. I'm just going to put the pack and play where the crib should be. If I can't stand getting up and walking the 10 steps to the baby room, I might move it into our room. But I'm definitely hoping to keep the baby in it's own room. I really don't want the baby used to staying in our room! We'll see!

Oh my cramping legs!

So I guess I have hit the 3rd trimester pains in my butt! Not literally. I haven't really had a problem with the sciatica nerve problem but lately my legs have gotten crampy. Especially when I get out of the car after my long commute. Oh well. I only have 6 weeks to go so I'm sure this is only a fraction of what most pregnant women experience. So I should think of myself as lucky!

Baby crib drama!

So you all know that my crib has been back ordered supposedly until now. Remember, I put my order in on July 7th! Well, it's a great crib, at an affordable price, very good reviews, and a A rating. So what's the drama? Well, the factory is closed for the entire month and it's going to be on back order until September 22nd now. So the drama is, do I just wait it out and put the baby in the Pack and Play until the crib is available? Or do I go searching for another crib? My problem is that all the other "A" rating cribs are so darn expensive. I hate to pay more for a crib that Matt & I paid for our bed!!! So I may be leaning towards just waiting it out. Apparently, everyone tells me the baby never sleeps in it's bed anyways the first couple of months. But I'm pretty determined that YES the baby sleeps in it's own bed. So I can still keep the Pack and Play in the baby's room in place of the crib. Then hopefully, the crib will come within at least a month after the baby is born.

34 week belly pics!

32 weeks
Whoa! I popped out in only 2 weeks!
Holy moly! There's a baby in there!

Thanks to the JAG women!

Yesterday I had my first baby shower! The JAG women threw me a "surprise" baby shower. I say "surprise" because I had kind of heard about it, but I played along. It was so nice that so many of them came especially because I have only met a few of them once or twice, or even never! I really am so thankful that people have been so nice to us. Baby B. scored a lot of cool new items! One of the girls took pictures, so once I get them I will add to my post! I have to say Thank You to my hosts, Karen, Sara, Cara, and Ashley! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

We are slowly but surely getting to a place where we need to be for Baby B. to arrive! Our crib should leave the warehouse on Monday, so hopefully by the end of the week we will actually have it in our hands! We also bought the car seat and stroller frame yesterday, so we can lawfully take home Baby B. once he/she arrives.

34 weeks! 6 weeks to go!

Only 6 weeks to go from here. I've already mentally prepared for a couple extra days passed the due date. Did you know that only ~5% of women actually deliver on their due date? It's good to know that I will only go 1 week past my due date. So the latest I will deliver will be October 6th. I really hope NOT to get induced though. I still can't believe there is only 6 weeks to go! Where did the time go? I hear the time only flies by quicker once the baby is here!

Oww! That's not nice!

I've been trying to catch the baby moving in my belly lately but it seems to be camera shy. Those nice little tapping movements and fluttering from my insides are long gone and now I experience strong, no longer comfortable kicks and punches! My least favorite are the kicks or punches to my side flank or those nice kicks to the ribs. But I hear soon the baby will be too big to kick and move like this, so at least it's a passing experience.

"34" week prenatal visit

I had my "34" prenatal visit today. I saw "34" because technically I am still 33 until Sunday. Somehow I ended up with an appointment before my official week ends. Anyways, I still am measuring small. I measured 31 (remember, it's supposed to match your weeks gestation) so I am still a little small. Since I was 30, 2 weeks ago she said it's okay. Heart rate was nice and strong at 140s-150s. We'll check again in 2 weeks. Then I go to weekly visits! I can't believe how fast this pregnancy has gone! It really is amazing! I can't believe in 6-7 weeks that I am going to have a baby! Scary!!!

I heart NYC!

On top of the Rockefeller Center
Outside our hotel, the Hyatt Grand Central
Central Park view of the city
More Central Park
Times Square
The Chrysler Building
New York City, well specifically Manhattan is one of my new favorite cities! Matt had a law conference last weekend, so I tagged along and got to experience NYC for the 1st time. I have to say, it's really cool. We drove up on Thursday. It's really not that bad of a drive. It took ~6-7 hours but we stopped along the way. We got into the city around noon on Friday when Matt went off to the conference. So after a couple of hours of relaxing, I went out on the town. I hit up the Grand Central Terminal, St. Patrick's Cathedral, St. Batholomew's Church, and the Rockefeller Center. Matt came home and we headed up to the Upper West Side to find a restaurant. Saturday, Matt headed out to the conference early so I got to relax in the hotel. From there, I discovered NYC shut down a few main roads called "Summer Streets." They closed down Park Avenue so I walked down the street amongst all the runners, walkers, bikers, tourists... all the way to Central Park. I really couldn't have asked for a nicer day. It was so beautiful. Then I enjoyed Central Park, found a street fair and ate a chocolate strawberry crepe... yum! Then I headed to Times Square where I discovered all the tourists! That place is crazy! Then I walked down another street, found Bryant Park and ate at a Cafe. Then headed back to the hotel to rest. This pregnant lady had walked enough in 2 days. I definitely got my exercise! Matt joined me later and we headed to a social event for his conference. So, I had quite a busy weekend. Too bad Matt wasn't able to join me. While I love NYC, my vote still goes to San Francisco. I really love love love that city!

Whoa I'm growing!

Well, here we are 33 weeks pregnant with 7 weeks to go. I think I'll try to start taking weekly pictures to watch me grow exponentially. The pregnancy continues to go well. No complaints. Still no feet swelling but I suppose in a few weeks I will surely be saying... "What the heck happened to my feet??"

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Hey! Those are my ribs!

Well, I can tell you Baby Besmer loves my ribs. He or she loves to stick feet (I'm guessing) and lodge them up under my ribs. It doesn't really hurt it's just a weird feeling especially when I bend over and there's something stuck up there. Really weird! Other than that, everything is still going fine. My weight gain has exceeded the 20 pound mark... oh my weighing in at almost 22 pounds plus this week! If I continue this, I will have gained 30 pounds which is 5 pounds over my goal. Sigh... My next OB appointment is August 14th. So for now, I'm just waiting for our crib to no longer be backordered. It should arrive in a couple of weeks! Our dresser is finally assembled! So I washed every baby item I have! My goodness those clothes are so tiny but oh so cute! Everything is white, yellow, and green so I can't wait to purchase all the other colors of the rainbow once we know if it's a boy or a girl!

Clothes borrowed

My coworker Carmen graciously has lent me some of her neutral baby clothes. I have easily doubled the baby clothes I have available! Most of them are all green, yellow, white and tan! So I can't wait until the baby makes it's appearance so I can add real colors to the mix!

32 week belly pics

30 weeks...

32 weeks... what a difference!
32 weeks close-up... Wow! I didn't realize how much I have grown! But as you can see my belly popped out there over the past 2 weeks. 8 more to go!

Babies R Us super sale!

Today was a super Friday sale at Babies R Us, so of course I had to go! They had 20% off their clearance items. So I bought every neutral piece of clothing I could find. So here is a picture of what $60 worth of clothing looks like. I only bought newborn and 0-3 months clothing. I figure after the baby is born I can buy more gender specific clothing. And a bonus! You get another coupon booklet which 2 - 20% off coupons! So if anyone goes and doesn't need the good 20% off coupons, mail them my way!

32 week prenatal visit

I had my 32 week prenatal appointment today. Everything is going well. I measure at 30 which is supposed to match how many weeks you are pregnant. So I am measuring a little small but growing well (per my doctor at least). You become concerned when you stop growing. The heart rate was nice and strong at 130s. I now transition to every 2 week visits until I hit 36 weeks where I go every week. Time is ticking! My official 32 weeks is on Sunday so be on the look out for updated belly pictures!
